What Is Estimating Analytics Software?

Estimating analytics software turns the bids your estimating department has already produced into reports and dashboards that show what you win, what you lose, and why. Instead of a bid log in a spreadsheet, owners and chief estimators see win rates by customer, project type, and estimator, along with the bid pipeline and upcoming deadlines, in one place.

For electrical contractors, that answer lives in Conest Connect, the web-based analytics and reporting companion to IntelliBid. It reads the job, bid, contractor, and competitor data your team already records while estimating, so there is nothing to re-enter.

  • Measure bid hit ratio across the company, by estimator, and by general contractor
  • See which occupancies and project sizes you win most often
  • Track bids due, bids pending, and change order value at a glance
  • Combine material and labor from multiple jobs for purchasing and manpower planning

Estimating KPIs Every Electrical Contractor Should Track

A single company-wide win rate hides most of the story. The estimating metrics that change how you bid are the ones broken down by who, what, and for whom.

  • Bid hit ratio: bids won compared to bids submitted, overall and over the past 12 months
  • Win rate by general contractor: which customers award you work, and which rarely do
  • Win rate by occupancy and size: the building types and square footage ranges where you are most competitive
  • Estimator performance: jobs bid and jobs won per estimator
  • Competitor performance: who is winning the work you don’t
  • Pipeline health: bids due soon, bids pending for more than 30 days, and bids by age

How to Calculate Bid Hit Ratio

Divide the number of bids won by the number of bids submitted. Winning 6 of 30 bids is a 20% hit ratio, often written as 5:1 (five bids for every win). Because electrical subcontractors frequently price the same project to several general contractors, it pays to look at hit ratio by customer as well as by project.

Turn Bid History into Better Bid Decisions

Experienced estimators have long kept a record of every bid: who won, the winning price, and the price per square foot. The trouble is keeping that log current by hand. When the record builds itself from your estimates, it starts answering the questions that decide next month’s bids.

Are We Bidding the Right Work?

Jobs won by occupancy type and by square footage range show where your pricing and experience are most competitive, so estimators spend their hours on bids you can actually win.

Are We Bidding to the Right Customers?

Comparing your wins with each contractor’s total awards shows which general contractors regularly award you work and which rarely do, so bidding time goes to the relationships that pay off.

Who Wins the Work We Lose?

Competitor performance views reveal which shops take the jobs you miss, and in which markets, so pricing and follow-up can respond.

Manage the Bid Pipeline and Estimator Workload

Analytics isn’t only a look back. The same dashboards keep the estimating department on schedule this week.

  • Summary tiles for jobs due in the next 10 days, jobs bid, bids pending, jobs won, and change order value
  • Top estimators by job, so workloads can be balanced before a deadline slips
  • Job status by month to spot busy and slow bidding periods
  • Interactive lists you can sort, filter, and drill into for job-level detail

Plan Purchasing and Manpower Across Jobs

Combine material summaries from several jobs, including their change orders and alternate bids, to buy with more leverage. Totaling labor across the same jobs gives project managers a head start on manpower planning.

Estimating Analytics: Common Questions

Estimating analytics software analyzes the bids a contractor has already prepared to show win rates, bid volume, estimator workload, customer and competitor results, and the pipeline of upcoming bids. For electrical contractors using IntelliBid, Conest Connect provides these reports and dashboards directly from the estimating data, without a separate bid log.

Bid hit ratio is the share of submitted bids that turn into awarded work. Divide bids won by bids submitted: 6 wins from 30 bids is a 20% hit ratio, also expressed as 5:1. Electrical contractors often bid one project to several general contractors, so it is useful to track the ratio by customer and by project type as well as company-wide.

There is no single right number. Hard-bid public work usually wins a smaller share than negotiated or repeat-customer work, and results vary by market and project type. The most useful benchmark is your own history: compare your hit ratio by general contractor, occupancy, and job size over time, and focus estimating hours where you win most consistently.

Start with bid hit ratio, then break it down by general contractor, occupancy type, square footage range, and estimator. Add competitor performance, the number of bids due and pending, bids by age, and change order value on active jobs. Together these show whether you are bidding the right work, to the right customers, with the right workload.

Not with Conest Connect. It reads the job and bid information already stored in IntelliBid, so dashboards stay current without exports or double entry. IntelliBid reports can still be exported to PDF, Excel, Word, or CSV when you need to share a specific report.

Estimating analytics looks at the bidding side of the business: what you bid, what you won, and for whom. Job cost reporting tracks spending on awarded projects, usually in accounting software. IntelliBid connects the two by exporting estimate budgets to accounting and job cost systems such as Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate, Sage 100 Contractor, Trimble Spectrum, and FOUNDATION.

Conest Connect works with IntelliBid electrical estimating software and uses its database, so your estimating data is the source for every report. It has a web-based interface for owners, estimators, and project managers. Request a demo to see it with the kind of work your company bids.
